Matt currently serves as General Manager of South Korea where he manages WeWork’s operations, community and sales. His responsibilities include growing the team and location portfolio, developing partnerships and growth opportunities, and ensuring the continuity of WeWork’s unique culture, product and community across the country.

Before assuming this role, Shampine served as Managing Director, Head of Sales and Marketing, APAC where he opened new markets including Korea, China, Hong Kong and Australia. Prior to moving to Asia, he focused on expanding WeWork’s service and partnership platform as VP of Business Development. Additionally, Shampine co-founded WeWork Labs in 2011, WeWork’s incubator for early-stage companies that has supported thousands of early-stage entrepreneurs.

Shampine initially joined WeWork as a founding member at the company’s first location in 2010 with a digital agency that he co-founded, Simande. Shampine also co-founded Onepager, a seed funded growth platform for small businesses, and We Are NY Tech, an online editorial sharing the stories of hundreds of New York City based startup founders. Prior to entering the startup world, he was a Senior Web Developer at Mercedes-Benz USA and ran for public office in New Jersey in 2007.

Shampine is currently on the Board of Governors for AMCHAM Korea where he also serves as Co-Chairman of the Real Estate and SME subcommittees. He is also on the Board of Directors for GOA’L, a Korean non-profit to support Korean adoptees. He recently served as an advisor to Entrepreneurs Roundtable Accelerator, an early stage technology accelerator based in NYC, and the non-profit KSE (Korean Startups & Entrepreneurs) organized to catalyze Korean and Korean-American entrepreneurship through community and resources. He is an active angel investor and advisor to a number of successful startups in both Korea and the United States. Shampine was born in South Korea and adopted to the US at a young age. In 2007, he was reunited with his birth family in Seoul and today maintains a close relationship with both his biological and adopted families. Shampine graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Computer Science from The College of New Jersey and attended graduate school at Drexel University in Philadelphia.
